Nick has made it his mission to foster safer online spaces.
He joined the Coral Project shortly before its acquisition by Vox Media in 2019. From there he became a core developer in ensuring that Coral's platforms scaled to meet both the strenuous demands of Vox's user base as well as many other customers around the globe.
After almost a decade of improving social and moderation tooling for Coral, Nick became the key architect for SB Nation's social platform (The Feed). Creating a completely new community and moderation toolset that would evolve into the future of public interaction at Vox Media.
His most recent endeavour has been the creation of Tightrope Software to bring the knowledge he has gained back to Canada through new moderation services that will protect current and future online spaces.

He was the founding head of The Coral Project (later ‘Coral’), a Knight Foundation-funded collaboration between Mozilla, the New York Times, and the Washington Post. Coral is an open source community platform for journalism, as well as a series of strategy guides and original research. Coral’s software is now in 23 languages and powers conversations for more than 60 publishers around the world.
Andrew ran Coral for ten years, managing its acquisition by Vox Media where he became Head of Community Product. He oversaw community strategy across the organization, including the development of SB Nation’s social platform, The Feed.
Andrew is currently the Director of Product / Product Editor at CalMatters and The Markup. He is on the advisory board of Documented and Open News, and is a teacher and mentor to students and early-career product managers.
